WoW Forever Launch Checklist: Prepare for Your First Character
Prepare your account, character choices and first-session plan for WoW Forever. A practical checklist with official launch and ruleset sources.
WoW Forever preparation starts before your first quest: agree where you will play, install the correct client and decide what a successful first session looks like. A little preparation can save your group from discovering incompatible character choices after everyone has already started leveling.
Pre-launch guide, checked October 30, 2026. This checklist separates Blizzard's announced features from G2U's planning suggestions. Launch details can change; follow the linked official announcements for updates.
WoW Forever launch date and access
Blizzard has announced a worldwide launch on November 4, 2026, at 23:00 GMT. Access is included with an active World of Warcraft subscription or game time. The announced journey reaches level 60. Optional upgrade packs have additional benefits; they are not the same thing as the subscription needed to play. Official launch announcement.
Convert the launch time to your own time zone before arranging a group session. A global release can fall on a different calendar day locally. Leave room in your plans for downloading updates and troubleshooting rather than promising friends that you will be questing at the exact opening minute.
Agree on your ruleset before creating a character
Forever uses rulesets instead of the familiar traditional realm choice. Blizzard lists Normal, PvP and Roleplaying, with Hardcore arriving later. Characters need compatible rulesets and factions to group together for ordinary group activities. Blizzard's ruleset explanation.
Before anyone creates a main character, send your group one short message containing:
- The region where you intend to play.
- Your chosen ruleset.
- Alliance or Horde.
- Your expected first-session time and approximate pace.
Make this a shared decision. Someone who wants relaxed exploration may enjoy a different ruleset from a friend who wants open-world conflict throughout the leveling journey. Sorting that out early is more useful than comparing character names after everyone has committed.
Check the correct client and account
Use Blizzard's installation instructions to select World of Warcraft: Forever in Battle.net's game-version menu. Make sure the intended WoW account is selected before installing or creating characters. Blizzard's preparation page also explains early name reservation and its eligibility requirements. Installation and name-reservation instructions.
Our practical suggestion is to finish the technical checks in a separate session:
- Allow the launcher and game to complete their available updates.
- Confirm that you can sign in to the intended account.
- Check display, sound and input settings where the client allows it.
- Keep a note of your group's agreed region, ruleset and faction.
- Set aside time for a short test before your planned group session.
These are preparation steps, not a guarantee that launch-day queues or interruptions will be absent.
Decide what to do with your first play session
Avoid turning the first evening into a list of unrelated targets. Choose one main objective: getting comfortable with a class, keeping a group together or building an initial leveling routine.
| Your priority | A sensible first-session plan |
|---|---|
| Explore with friends | Agree on a meeting point and a pace everyone can follow. |
| Learn an unfamiliar class | Spend time understanding abilities and controls before chasing a route. |
| Prepare for professions | Find current trainer information and inspect recipes before buying materials. |
| Make steady progress | Group nearby objectives and reduce unnecessary travel. |
This table is planning advice, not a class ranking or a verified fastest-leveling route. Specific route efficiency needs testing in the released game.
Set a spending plan before browsing equipment
Separate essential expenses from optional upgrades. Keep enough flexibility for the costs you actually encounter instead of spending everything on the first attractive listing.
Before buying, ask three questions: does this solve a problem now, will an upcoming activity replace it, and can I still cover my immediate expenses afterward? Check current tooltips and vendor information rather than copying prices from another WoW version.
For a longer discussion of gathering, trading and spending, read our WoW Forever gold preparation guide. It focuses on planning and observation rather than promising an unverified hourly income.
Choose professions around your actual playstyle
Choose a profession because you expect to use it. Gathering may fit a character that spends a lot of time traveling, while crafting may suit someone who enjoys planning materials and producing useful items. Coordinate with friends before everyone commits to the same role.
Our WoW Forever professions guide explains primary slots, secondary skills and what Blizzard has announced about Camping. Treat early profession choices as part of your play plan, not as a promise of launch-week profit.
If you are comparing leveling services
Check the exact game version, current and desired levels, region, ruleset and faction before placing an order. Read what is included, how the service is performed and what information you will need to provide.
An estimated start and an estimated leveling duration describe different things. Ask whether the displayed duration includes waiting, and whether additional options such as professions are covered by that estimate.
You can browse the WoW Forever services listed at G2U. Check current availability and the individual product's conditions before ordering. A listing is not confirmation that a pre-launch service is already being fulfilled.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to buy an upgrade pack to access WoW Forever?
Blizzard says access is included with a WoW subscription or game time. Upgrade packs offer additional benefits; check their current descriptions separately.
Can friends on different rulesets group together?
Blizzard says cross-ruleset grouping is not supported for activities such as dungeons and raids. Agree on compatible character choices before you begin.
Is this a fastest-leveling guide?
No. It is a preparation checklist. It does not claim tested routes, guaranteed completion times or class performance for the released game.
What should I confirm before buying a service?
Confirm the game version, region, ruleset, faction, selected level range, availability, fulfillment method and the meaning of the displayed time estimate.
